Google Chrome for Windows 8 is an Internet web browser that has been specially designed to have a Metro-style feel. It essentially gives those who use Microsoft 8 a peek into how Chrome will be in the future, when it has a touch screen. In order to gain access to the touch screen features, a person needs to download Chrome through the developer channel and make Google Chrome the default browser.

Pros of Installing Google Chrome for Windows 8:

  • Early Look at a Touchscreen Chrome: It's always exciting to be able to experience a feature before it is released. Installing Chrome for Windows 8 will allow a person to experience how Chrome would be when it is in touchscreen form. This is important because it will allow users to provide input regarding how they like the touchscreen version, what different features might need to be added and how the system can work better.
  • Not a Lot of Difference from the Desktop Version: The layout of the new touchscreen version of Google Chrome for Windows 8 is very similar to the layout of the desktop version. This is helpful because it allows new users to easily adapt to the smaller changes without being overwhelmed. The main change is that the menu button is much larger at the top right of the screen. This makes the menu slightly more easy to navigate.
  • Full Support for Adobe Flash: Google Chrome for Windows 8 provides full support for Adobe Flash, allowing all applications and programs that require Flash to run much more smoothly and quickly. It will also cause any updates that are produced by Adobe for its Flash player to automatically be installed. This keeps Adobe Flash up-to-date with basically no thought on the part of the user. Adobe Flash, with Google Chrome, is guaranteed to work on basically every site.
  • High Speed: Google Chrome, in any iteration, tends to be the fastest Internet browser on the market. This is important because it will ensure that all downloads are able to be completed within a very short period of time. It will also allow people who frequently play games or watch videos on the Internet to not suffer the lag spikes that commonly plague other browsers.

Cons of Installing Google Chrome for Windows 8:

  • Not Metro Friendly: Because this a prototype and not a final product, the design of the browser does not precisely fit the Metro aesthetic. It feels more like an problem or invader, rather than a program that has been specifically designed for the system. It will not elicit as positive a response with users.
  • Not Touch Friendly (yet!): Even though the design is perfect for a program to be touch friendly, Google Chrome for Windows 8 is not yet touch friendly. This can be frustrating for those who wish to experience the Chrome browser in its full touch screen glory because they will have to wait until the features have been fully developed and released.
